CABARET NIGHT RAISES £1375 FOR QUEENSCOURT HOSPICE A huge thank you to everyone who came and danced the night away at our first cabaret and dance night at the Civic Hall! We raised £1375 for Queenscourt Hospice in Southport.
The photo above shows the official presentation where the OTC presented the cheque to Queenscourt. Staff members Jan Sephton, Barbara Wareing and Julie Massam received the cheque from OTC’s Lisa Hargreaves, Suzanne Gawne, Gary Simpson, Christine Simpson, Jenny Morris and Charlotte Taylor led by our mastermind, Heather Gawne.
The concert was held in memory of Rob Gawne, Heather’s husband, who passed away on September 25th last year following a long battle with cancer, and to applaud the caring and dedicated staff who work so tirelessly to help and support patients and their families.
Rob was head of physics at Rainford High Technology College and a respected member of the Burscough community. Heather, apart from her antics with us as part of the OTC, is well known for her fund-raising activities through drama and stage shows. Over the years she has helped to raise many thousands of pounds for cancer charities and local schools.
We’d like to thank Tom Canavan of Tawd Vale Lions for his help with sound, Lee Davies on lights, Ormskirk Golf Club, Hurlston Hall Golf Club, Everton FC, Liverpool FC and everyone who donated prizes for the event.
The bad news is we’re planning to do it all over again with a special festive Cabaret night over the Christmas/New Year holiday! So dust down the Santa suit and tinsel earrings... Full details of the date and venue will be announced on the website as soon as they are finalised. Demand for tickets is sure to be high.
LOOKING FORWARD TO 2010 Plans are already underway for the OTC’s programme for 2010. After a number of hallowe’en themed murder mysteries in the Autumn, the Christmas concert and our panto at Edge Hill (see details on the right), two plays and another panto are planned for 2010. At the moment, we are holding a number of play readings looking for suitable material for next year. Send us an e-mail if you would like to come along! So far we’ve been looking at An Inspector Calls by J B Priestley, Aunt Hilda and I by Darren Edwards (who wrote our highly successful Naughty Words in 2007), more Shakespeare with Much Ado About Nothing, Dancing at Lughansa by Brian Friel and Helene Hanff’s 84 Charing Cross Road. Suggestions for future productions are always welcome! |

I’M SLEEPING BEAUTY - GET ME OUT OF HERE! It may be midsummer, but advance bookings are now being taken for this year’s OTC pantomime, I’m Sleeping Beauty - Get Me Out of Here! - following on from the great success of last year’s Rose Theatre pantomime, Jock and the Amazing Technicolor Beansprout, we’re back in the Rose Theatre at Edge Hill for another mix of mad lunacy, cheering the goodies, hissing the baddies and indulging in a little rock and roll along the way. This year we are holding a preview night on the Tuesday (all tickets £2) and three matinee performances, on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Matinees sold out quickly last year - so be sure to get your tickets!
The show, written by Andy Hawkes, Andy Hill, Gary Simpson and Charlotte Taylor, is being staged one week later this year and begins on Tuesday December 1st, finishing on Sunday, December 6th.
Tickets are currently only available online, but they will be available from Brighouse Wolff in Aughton Street, Ormskirk and the Rose Theatre itself from September. Please note that all bookings made directly through the Rose are subject to an additional booking fee of £2 per ticket.
Enjoy the “summer” - it’ll be snowing and there’ll be Easter Eggs in the shops before you know it! |
