SYNOPSIS The King and Queen of Ormskirkia are sad, for they have been unable to have children. Fortunately, they are blessed by three Good Fairies, who work their magic and soon the Queen has a delightful baby girl, whom they call Beauty. The King’s evil sister is Morgana, the Queen of the neighbouring kingdom of Southport-not-very-by-the-sea; hoping that her brother would die childless, she aspired to take over the kingdom of Ormskirkia herself and enlarge her expanding empire. She is not a happy bunny.
During a party to christen the new baby, Fairy Cake grants Beauty the gift of... well, beauty while Fairy Liquid grants her the gift of song. Before the third good fairy, Fairy Nuff, can grant her wish, Morgana invades the gathering together with two soldiers from her army, the mean and ruthless Sergeant Scarface and the somewhat less intimidating Private Hopeless.
Morgana curses the child and vows that she shall suffer an accident and die before her 21st birthday. Unable to break Morgana’s powerful spell, Fairy Nuff tempers it so that Beauty will merely fall asleep, should such an accident occur, until one day she is awoken by Love’s True Kiss...
The King and Queen flee to hide with Beauty in the safety of Ruff Wood, but their whereabouts are discovered and so Beauty is placed in the care of the three Good Fairies... where she grows into a beautiful young woman. There, she happens to meet Prince Valiant, a handsome young prince who through the gift of artistic licence just happens to be passing. The two instantly fall in love in the midst of some nauseating strings and sickening cuddly woodland animals.
Just in the nick of time Morgana’s soldiers arrive to spare us another verse of the obligatory love song: in the ensuing battle Beauty is injured by Valiant’s sword and collapses into a magical sleep. Valiant is snatched by the soldiers and taken to the depths of Morgana’s dungeons...
Can anyone save the day....? Ah, you may have to come along to find out...
THE CHARACTERS KING HUBERT OF ORMSKIRKIA - an eccentric inventor, somewhat absent-minded QUEEN OF ORMSKIRKIA - the Dame. Wails a lot and flirts with the audience. BEAUTY - our heroine, young, beautiful, with a lovely singing voice. Not much to ask. PRINCE VALIANT - our hero. Dashing. MORGANA - the witch queen of Southport, evil personified. SERGEANT SCARFACE - her ruthless henchman, you don’t want to get on his wrong side PRIVATE HOPELESS - not the brightest member of Morgana’s military might. FAIRY CAKE - like your Mum, practical, sensible but wipes your face with a hankie FAIRY LIQUID - definitely upper class, twin set and pearls - like Hyacinth Bucket FAIRY NUFF - the opposite of Fairy Liquid, down to earth and calls a spade a spade JAILER - Morgana’s jailer, he has a lisp, a hunchback and trails one leg Plus... Of course, the chorus
